Capturing Whitby with a DS

Whitby Abbey

Last week my family and I visited Dracula’s favourite seaside, Whitby. It’s a beautiful seaside town with a rich history. Since we stayed in a caravan 10 minutes away from his abbey, there was little connection. A lot of grass was touched. I randomly founded my *New* 2DS while packing and decided to take it on a whim. So, why not for old times sake? It was my favourite console as a child.

I forgot how amusing and whimsical it was to use ‘silly’ tech. It’s fun to take unserious pictures of everything with a terrible camera. There’s a feeling of nostalgia. I miss fun and silly. Modern tech is a bit joyless now. The DS may have been targeted for children, but plenty of adults loved it. I was genuinely surprised how much you could do with a small old device from the 2010s. The camera is only 0.3 megapixels, but I managed to get some nice shots. You’re seeing the world through a 2008 lens (the camera quality stayed the same since DSi.) Apparently, it was popular during a lofi aesthetic trend in 2023. I see why.

If you’re planning to walk to the abbey, please prepare your legs for the 199 steps. Going up and down.

Scarborough
Trying to look for seabay.com

There was an unfortunate incident of seagull poop bombardment at Scarborough with one casualty (not me)

Sheep 🐑
Ravenscar

Ravenscar is THE place to find seals… but we arrived at a “wrong time.” Instead, we saw plenty of sheep roaming around. The hike was beautiful though. The hills are a bit scary 😹
