Shortcake Headband Crochet Pattern

Spring is finally here! The weather is warmer and the mornings are brighter. Flowers are blooming and newborn animals are birthed. It’s a beautiful time for new beginnings.
For the new season, I crocheted this lovely shortcake headband – it’s an easy accessory to put on for a busy day (and to feel cute). The project itself is made of double crochets, and it’s perfect for a structured and sleek look. If you look closely the stitches look like ribbon knots 🎀

Notes

UK Terminology (UK and US Terminology Difference)
Level: Beginner
Hook size: 3.5 mm
Yarn weight: DK
Number of skeins: 1 (colour 1), 1 (colour 2) – 1 (only colour 1)
Recommended fibre(s): Cotton
Fibre characteristics: Strong, durable, structured
Specific tension is not necessary for this project. Fit the headband according to fit.
Blocking may be required to smooth out edges or to stretch the piece.

Customisation Notes

  • For a wider headband, create additional increase rows (repeat row 4)
  • For thinner headband, create fewer increase rows (repeat row 4 and remain below 9 st)
  • Add embroidery and embellishments if desired.

The Headband

Start off with 3 ch
Row 1: dc into 2nd ch from hook, 2 dc into third ch, turn – 3 dc
Row 2: 1 ch, dc across the row, turn – 3 dc
Row 3: Rep Row 2 until there are 62 rows
Row 4: 1 ch, 2 dc in first st, dc across the row until last st, 2 dc in last st, turn
Row 5: Rep Row 4 until there are 9 st
Row 6: 1 ch, dc across the row, turn
Row 7: Rep Row 6 until there are 78 rows of 9 st
Row 8: 1 ch, dc2tog into first st, dc across the row until final two st, dc2tog last two st, turn
Row 9: Rep Row 8 until there are 3 st
Row 10: Rep Row 2 until there are 62 rows of 3 st
Finish

Edging

At one of the ends of the headband, join new yarn with ss
Round 1: htc around the headband
Finish and weave in ends, block if necessary.
